PRESS RELEASE: Rick Felici Announces Re-election Campaign for Island County Sheriff’s Office
COUPEVILLE, WA – September 19, 2025 – Sheriff Rick Felici today announced the official launch of his campaign for re-election to lead the Island County Sheriff’s Office.
“It has been an honor to serve Island County as your Sheriff over the past seven plus years,” Rick Felici said. “Under my leadership, we’ve strengthened our team, improved office culture, enhanced leadership and training opportunities, and worked to build lasting trust in our community – even through unprecedented challenges law enforcement has faced in recent years.”
Rick Felici’s decision to run again comes from a clear sense that the work isn’t finished. Under his leadership, the Sheriff’s Office has built real momentum. “We’ve made real progress, but there’s still more to do,” Felici said. “We need a safer, modern jail with capacity for more services. We also need to ensure appropriate staffing levels and strengthen our leadership culture with an eye toward the future. We will continue building out our mental health and drug treatment outreach programs.”
“My focus is – and has always been – on public safety, service, and earning the trust of our community by doing the right thing and following the rule of law. No matter your political views, you can count on fair and professional service from me and my team.”
Felici’s law enforcement career began in 1988 while serving as a patrol officer with the NAS Whidbey Island Security Police Detachment and a Reserve Officer with the Oak Harbor Police Department. He joined the Island County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 and rose through the ranks, serving as a Chief Deputy before being elected Sheriff in 2018.
“It is a privilege to serve this community,” Felici added. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I hope to continue earning the trust and support of Island County residents.”
