Meet Rick Felici

Born and raised in central New York, Rick found his home in Washington when the United States Navy brought him to the Pacific Northwest in 1984. After serving as Security Police at NAS Whidbey Island, Rick joined the Island County Sheriff's Office in 1994 – beginning a lifelong commitment to public safety and public service.

Over the past 30 years, Rick has worked in nearly every role in the Sheriff’s Office: patrol deputy on both Whidbey Island and Camano Island, detective, precinct sergeant, detective sergeant, and Chief Criminal Deputy. These diverse experiences shaped the steady, well-rounded leadership he brings to the Sheriff’s Office today.

Since being elected Sheriff in 2018, Rick has:

  • Grown the number of commissioned deputies to strengthen public safety

  • Expanded embedded mental health and opioid outreach programs

  • Introduced safety and accountability measures that reduced deputy-involved collisions

  • Led efforts to plan and secure funding for a modern, safe, and functional new jail facility

  • Guided the office through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining high standards of service

Rick lives south of Coupeville with his wife Monica, their two daughters, a grandson, a granddaughter, and their dog Gus. He is proud to serve as your Sheriff – and is dedicated to leading the Island County Sheriff's Office with integrity, experience, and heart.
